In the TAHC we currently have an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Torpoint Rowing Club.
Here is a small sample that reflects the exhibit:
Torpoint Topics was created as a fundraiser very early in the life of Torpoint Rowing Club.
It sold for one shilling when first published in 1967, and was produced “in-house” by a group of volunteers using duplicators and each copy had to be collated and stapled by hand.
The first issue was 500 copies and sold out. Print runs of a 1000 copies were then made on a monthly basis, and included notices of Rowing Club functions, such as dances and youth activities. It also included games and puzzles, a Torpoint Personality of the Month and a local history series by Jack Kingston.
The Torpoint Archives hold two full sets of the Torpoint Topics, why not pop in and take a look!
This is only a sample of our exhibition.
There is so much more to see on display within our center; so why not pop in and take a look, and have a chat with one of our volunteers too!
